Hello ,
Thank you for your interest in adopting a barn cat from the Oregon Humane Society! I appreciate that you would like to provide one of our cats with a loving home and the opportunity to have space to roam.
However, I want to clarify that we are primarily an owner-surrender facility, so these cats have only ever lived indoors in a home environment. All of our available cats are indoor pets, and we strive to ensure their safety and well-being in a controlled environment. It is important to us that they remain indoors where they can be protected from outdoor hazards and potential dangers.
Although we mainly intake owner-surrenders, we do intake some stray and feral cats to our Salem location due to our contract with Polk County animal control. We try to socialize them to prepare for living in a home if they are young enough, but sometimes they unfortunately do not have the temperament to be a house cat. In these situations, we would reach out to families looking for a barn cat or mouser. I will pass along your contact information to our Salem adoption team so you can be added to this barn cat waitlist.
Since it may take a while for us to contact you regarding an available barn cat, I will also list below several other organizations that have a barn cat program. Please note that these organizations are not affiliated with or vetted by the Oregon Humane Society, contact at your discretion!
